STATEHOUSE (April 15, 2016) – State Rep. Mike Aylesworth (R-Hebron) presented a resolution to two local high school students, Colton Cummings and Drew Hughes, honoring them on their accomplishments in wrestling.
Cummings, of Lowell High School, has led a nearly undefeated career, with a record of 41-1. Those wins include victories in conference, sectional, regional and semi-state championships. Cummings originally won the 106-pound state wrestling title in 2015 and has since moved on to win 113-pound title, the latter victory being achieved in a mere 3 minutes and 35 seconds against his opponent. A wrestling rankings website, IndianaMat, has awarded Cummings the No. 1 ranking in his weight class.
“I’m so proud to honor Colton, and it is great to see the pride he brings to Lowell High School,” Aylesworth said. “He is a great example to his fellow wrestlers and the entire school.
Drew Hughes, a student at Lowell High, who is currently undefeated, was also honored. Hughes won both the 160- and 170-pound titles. He won the state championship match in 12-0 decision against a Delphi High School student. He originally aimed to be Coach Bobby Howard’s first wrestler to win a state title at Banker’s Life Fieldhouse, a goal he achieved not once, but twice. Hughes has verbally committed to attend Michigan State University.
“The amount of success Drew has achieved is truly amazing and he is such a great ambassador for the wrestling program and school he represents,” Aylesworth said. “I am looking forward to big things from him as he takes his career to the collegiate level.”
Aylesworth is proud of both wrestlers and wishes them the best in the coming years.
