STATEHOUSE (Dec. 19, 2023) – The Jasper-Pulaski Fish and Wildlife Area Shooting Range can fire ahead with their plans to make improvements with the help of over $5.5 million in newly approved state funding, according to State Reps. Michael Aylesworth (R-Hebron) and Kendell Culp (R-Rensselaer).
"With the approved funding, the Jasper-Pulaski FWA Shooting Range can safely continue to house the local archery, rifle, shotgun and handgun facilities," Culp said. "Creating several different opportunities and range options, the Jasper-Pulaski range attracts visitors from all over the area."
The Department of Natural Resources is using a combination of state and federal funding for upgrades to bring the shooting range up to ADA standards, and increase safety and functionality systems. The scope of the project will include reconfiguring the range, constructing new structures following ADA guidelines and replacing bullet catchers and other safety systems.
In 2019, Aylesworth voted in support of the range funding as part of the state budget, which will be combined with federal funds to complete the project.
"As a longtime member of the National Rifle Association, I understand the importance of gun safety and training, and these improvements are overdue," Aylesworth said. "I look forward to the completion of this project and the visitors it will bring."
