STATEHOUSE (Oct. 11, 2024) – The Oct. 31 deadline to apply for an Indiana House Republican internship during the 2025 legislative session is fast approaching, according to area lawmakers.

State Rep. Martin Carbaugh (R-Fort Wayne) said this full-time, spring semester internship is Monday through Friday at the Statehouse in Indianapolis during the legislative session, which will start in January and conclude in April. House interns earn $900 biweekly and can gain academic credit through their college or university.

"Internships are often where students build connections that lead them to their first job after graduation," Carbaugh said. "This program is dedicated to helping young professionals enhance their skills and resumes, making them stand out from other job candidates when they enter the workforce."

State Rep. Dave Heine (R-Fort Wayne) said interested college sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students and recent graduates of all majors should visit indianahouserepublicans.com/internship to complete the application before Oct. 31.

"During their time interning at the Statehouse, students work on a variety of tasks like helping constituents, providing public updates on session and analyzing policy," Heine said. "The deadline to take advantage and apply for this unique learning opportunity is fast approaching and I encourage local students to apply.”

State Rep. Chris Judy (R-Fort Wayne) said Indiana House internships include free parking, career and professional development assistance, and enrollment access to an Indiana government class. Interns are also eligible to apply for a competitive $3,000 scholarship to use toward undergraduate and graduate expenses.

"Statehouse internships are where many young Hoosier professionals launch their careers," Judy said. "The House Republican Internship Program is a unique learning experience and great resume builder."

State Rep. Bob Morris (R-Fort Wayne) said the program offers opportunities for students to work in various departments related to their studies, including legislative operations, policy and communications.

"I hope to see students from Allen County take part in the House Republican Internship Program," Morris said. "There's always something new and exciting going on at the Statehouse during session, and interns will have the opportunity to work with state leaders and gain valuable insight into the legislative process."

Applications are available online at indianahouserepublicans.com/internship and are due by Oct. 31.
