STATEHOUSE (Oct. 25, 2023) – Allen County lawmakers encourage local college students and recent graduates to apply online for an internship at the Indiana Statehouse before the Oct. 31 deadline.

The House of Representatives offers paid spring internships to college sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students and recent graduates of all majors. Interns will receive $900 biweekly while working at the Indiana Statehouse in downtown Indianapolis during the 2024 legislative session, which begins in January and concludes mid-March.

State Rep. Chris Judy (R-Fort Wayne) said interested Hoosiers should visit indianahouserepublicans.com/internship and complete the application before Oct. 31.

"Our interns will have the opportunity to work with state officials and expand their professional network, which can be beneficial for their job search," Judy said. "I encourage students of all majors to apply now for this unique experience and opportunity to build their resume."

"Internships are where many people develop relationships that help them secure their first job," said State Rep. Martin Carbaugh (R-Fort Wayne). "This program is geared to help young professionals strengthen their skills and resumes so they stand out from other job candidates."

Positions are available in legislative operations where interns work directly with constituents and help track committee activity. The communications department is looking for interns to help write press releases and email newsletters, and work with social media, graphic design and audio/video production. The policy department is also in need of interns to help research, track and analyze legislation.

"Hoosiers accepted into the internship program will have the chance to work alongside legislators and professional staff," said State Rep. Bob Morris (R-Fort Wayne). "While working at the Statehouse, House Republican interns have opportunities to help constituents, write press releases and email newsletters, and analyze policy."

"In today's competitive workplace, having an internship on your resume will set you apart from other individuals applying for a role, " said State Rep. Dave Heine (R-Fort Wayne). "Our program builds off the skills students are learning in the classroom and allows them to apply their knowledge in a fast-paced and professional environment."

Internships are full time, Monday through Friday, and include free parking, career and professional development assistance, enrollment access to an Indiana government class, and opportunities to earn academic credits through the student's college or university. Interns are also eligible to apply for a competitive $3,000 scholarship to use toward undergraduate and graduate expenses.
