STATEHOUSE (March 6, 2025) – Indiana's Community Crossings Matching Grant Program awarded local communities over $4.1 million in state funding for local road and bridge projects, according to Allen County legislators.
The Community Crossings Matching Grant Program provides local communities funding for road reconstruction, bridge preservation, intersection improvements and other projects. This year, 245 Indiana communities will receive more than $200 million in state matching grants.
"The Community Crossings Matching Grant Program supports communities by providing additional funding that is essential for infrastructure projects of all sizes," said State Rep. Martin Carbaugh (R-Fort Wayne). "I'm thrilled to see Allen County taking advantage of these grant opportunities so that Hoosiers see the benefits on our roadways."
Area grant recipients include Allen County ($1.5 million), Fort Wayne ($1.5 million) and New Haven ($1.1 million).
"Rural communities, like mine, often have limited resources and can benefit from additional support to complete highway maintenance and other infrastructure improvements," said State Rep. Dave Heine (R-Fort Wayne). "And it's encouraging to me to know that there's more upgrades in the works coming to my district, House District 85 and all of Allen County."
State Rep. Chris Judy (R-Fort Wayne) said to qualify for funding, smaller municipalities must provide a 25 percent match in local funds, while larger communities must provide a 50 percent match. The state requires 50 percent of available matching funds be awarded annually to communities within counties with a population of 50,000 or less. Since 2016, Community Crossings has awarded more than $2 billion to improve local roads and bridges.
"Dependable infrastructure is key for the safety of Hoosiers and the success of our communities," Judy said. "It is important to prioritize the upkeep and enhancement of roads, bridges and intersections."
Indiana was recently ranked as the best state in the nation for overall road conditions by ConsumerAffairs, noting our low rate of traffic fatalities and quality of roads.
"The Community Crossings program enables smaller cities and towns to maximize their budgets for essential road and infrastructure projects," said State Rep. Bob Morris (R-Fort Wayne). "This strong partnership between state and local governments will accelerate the completion of vital projects, leading to safer travel for Hoosiers."
