STATEHOUSE (Aug. 23, 2022) – The longstanding Braun Farm in Adams County recently received a Hoosier Homestead Centennial Award for being in operation since 1880, according to State Rep. Matt Lehman (R-Berne) and State Sen. Travis Holdman (R-Markle).

"Our communities and state are stronger because of longstanding farming families who dedicate their livelihoods to the agriculture industry," Lehman said. "It's certainly not getting any easier to run a family farm, and I commend these local Hoosiers on their commitment and work ethic."

The Braun Farm was among more than 100 awardees recently recognized at the Indiana State Fair for their commitment to Indiana agriculture.

"When driving through our district, I pass by fields and farms and wonder how these operations started," Holdman said. "With the Hoosier Homestead awards, families and the state get to take time to understand the history of each awarded farm and celebrate past and present family farmers who tirelessly worked to maintain a great level of success. I congratulate the Braun family for this impressive accomplishment."

Farms owned and maintained by the same family for 100 years or more can qualify for centennial, sesquicentennial or bicentennial Hoosier Homestead awards.

Each year, two awards ceremonies are held in the spring and summer commemorating the achievements of farm families across the state. Since its inception in 1976, more than 5,800 farms received the designation as Hoosier Homesteads.
