STATEHOUSE (May 2, 2018) – State Rep. David Abbott (R-Rome City) took the oath of office today to serve as state representative for House District 82.

Indiana Supreme Court Justice Steven David administered the oath in the House Chamber of the Statehouse during a formal swearing-in ceremony.

“I am excited for the opportunity to represent the hardworking people of our community,” Abbott said. “I believe in local government control and I will continue looking out for my constituents like I have for the past 30 years, only now I can be a lot more effective on the state level. I am looking forward to drawing on my experiences working in local government and continuing to build on Indiana’s momentum.”

Abbott and his wife, Lori, live in Rome City and have five children and 12 grandchildren. He was born and raised in Fort Wayne, graduated from Indiana University and has lived in Noble County for the past 38 years. He was on the Rome City Town Council for 27 years, served as a Noble County commissioner for the past three years, and has been on a number of boards, commissions and committees throughout the county.

Abbott will serve the remaining term of former State Rep. David Ober of Albion who resigned his seat in April.
