STATEHOUSE (Feb. 20, 2026) – This session, State Rep. David Abbott (R-Rome City) co-authored a resolution recognizing the longstanding partnership between the Province of Québec and the State of Indiana.
House Concurrent Resolution 8 highlights Indiana's diplomatic goodwill, regional cooperation, cross-border trade and environmental collaboration with Québec. Both are involved in the Conference of the Great Lakes and St. 11 Lawrence Governors and Premiers, and the Great Lakes–St. 12 Lawrence Legislative Caucus.
"This resolution affirms the important partnership between Québec and Indiana," Abbott said. "Québec's strong interparliamentary ties with our state, along with efforts through the Great Lakes – St. Lawrence region, supports responsible water management, trade and environmental stewardship to promote shared prosperity."
Abbott said the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence region holds approximately 20 percent of the world's surface fresh water and provides clean drinking water to more than 40 million people in the United States and Canada. Abbott said maintaining strong relationships with regional partners helps ensure reliable water management and economic stability.
Over the past decade, Indiana and Québec have expanded their relationship, with the goal of increasing maritime commerce and strengthening economic growth in both regions.
