A community treasure: Harmonie State Park
A great state park resides in our community—Harmonie State Park. From a swimming pool to miles of trails and even a Nature Center, there is something for everyone at this park. Located on the banks of the Wabash River, the scenic views are breathtaking.
There have been some great new addition to the park this year; thanks to park volunteer Max Butler. He has put up a new basketball hoop for kids to play some three on three and also created a horseshoe pit.
Another great feature of this park is the two historic communities that visitors can learn about when coming to the park. These historic societies are fascinating to study and they draw people from across the state especially because residents of New Harmony have preserved the communities so well. Boy Scout Nathan Wiley and his troop recently helped too by restoring one of the pioneer cemeteries, Edward’s Cemetery, so make sure you stop by and see their efforts.
This upcoming weekend is Haunted Harmonie, always a treat to attend. There will be hayrides, a scavenger hunt, trick or treating and a pumpkin decorating contest. If you dare to have some fun, head on out and join the Halloween festivities.
There is now a great way to support this community treasure. A non-profit group is forming called Friends of Harmonie and is looking for individuals who want to give back to New Harmonie Park and make this park even better. Membership forms can be picked up at the Nature Center or you can email firstname.lastname@example.org.
