STATEHOUSE – State Representative Randy Fry (R- Greensburg) congratulates Jenna Kendrick, from Rising Sun, for receiving the 2013 Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship today. The award recognizes high school seniors for their outstanding leadership skills, high academic performance and participation in community service projects.

“I would like to congratulate Jenna on being honored with this award that distinguishes her as a student leader and as someone who aids her community,” said Rep. Frye. “This scholarship is a tremendous way to reward strong work ethic, academic achievements and acts of service by our student leaders.”

Beginning annually in 2000, Comcast reached out to high school guidance counselors and principals to recognize the brightest seniors as the nation’s “leaders and achievers.” The award recipients were nominated for their extensive involvement in their schools and participation in various service projects that positively impact their communities.

Since 2001, Comcast has awarded approximately $19 million in scholarship funds to more than 19,000 students across the nation. Jenna, who attends Rising Sun High School, was one of 49 Hoosier students to receive the $1,000 award.

“Students today have many responsibilities, one of which is achieving good grades. Participating in various school and community projects is an outstanding feat and is deserving of our highest praise,” said Rep. Frye. “I am sure through Jenna’s continued dedication and resolve, she will succeed in whatever career path she chooses. I wish her the best in all of her endeavors.”

The award was presented at the Indiana Statehouse by First Lady Karen Pence and Tim Collins, the Senior Vice President of the Comcast Heartland Region.
