STATEHOUSE - State Representative Peggy Mayfield (R- Martinsville) is pleased to be giving away 100 free tree seedlings at the Martinsville Kroger for whoever wants one.

Each member of the Indiana General Assembly is allocated 100 sapling trees annually from the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for distribution to their local public service organizations to be planted around the district. Rep. Mayfield will be distributing the trees with the Morgan County Soil and Water Conservation District Education Coordinator Carla Allen.

“Not only add beauty to our district, they also positively impact the environment,” said Rep. Mayfield. “Trees improve air quality, water conservation and soil preservation.”

The tree giveaway will occur at the Kroger in Martinsville starting at 1 p.m. on May 4th. Rep. Mayfield and Ms. Allen will distribute the trees on a first come, first serve basis.

They are giving away gray dogwoods for smaller areas, tall, fast- growing Norway Spruce and Red Oak, which are fast-growing and excellent shade for larger areas. A fact sheet will accompany each tree. There is a limit to one per family.

“I encourage people to come meet me on May 4th to pick up trees and discuss any questions or concerns you may have,” said Rep. Mayfield. “I look forward to the positive impact these trees will have on our community.”
