This week the Indiana General Assembly kicked off its 2024 legislative session, where state representatives and senators will meet from now through mid-March at the Statehouse to examine issues important to Hoosiers.
This is an exciting time for our state, and while in session, it is important to stay connected as I work to ensure Indiana is the best that it can be.
While in session, I will serve as vice chair on the House Courts and Criminal Code Committee, where we'll review proposed legislation involving Indiana's criminal justice system. As an attorney, I understand the necessity for our state to have an efficient and fair justice system, and this session provides another opportunity for legislators to ensure Indiana's courts are working as they should. I will also serve on the House Judiciary Committee and the House Local Government Committee.
Committee meetings are an important part of the legislative process, giving Hoosiers a space to speak on proposed laws and lawmakers time to thoroughly review legislation.
Not only will I work to vet legislation this session, I will also bring forward proposals of my own, including more work to help prevent overdoses caused by Xylazine, an animal tranquilizer often mixed in with other illicit substances. I encourage Hoosiers to take advantage of the online tools we have to stay informed as we move through the session. Hoosiers can also use the Indiana General Assembly's newly redesigned website, iga.in.gov, to find helpful Information on bills and meeting times, and watch livestreams of session and committee hearings.
