Miller recognizes Elkhart Central for academic excellence

STATEHOUSE (June 9, 2016) – State Rep. Doug Miller (R-Elkhart) applauds Elkhart Central High School on being recognized for their high scoring on the Advanced Placement (AP) exam.

Iveth Gaona, an Elkhart Central AP student, presented the awards during a ceremony Wednesday at the Statehouse. Elkhart Central along with 50 other schools received recognition at the 2016 Indiana Advanced Placement Ceremony to highlight their academic success. Each school had at least 25 percent of their graduating classes earning a three or higher on the AP exam. The tests are scored on a 1 to 5 scale.

“Iveth was a guest speaker and presenter for the ceremony, because she excelled in extracurricular activities in the community as well as in the classroom,” Miller said. “It’s great to see that Elkhart Central is one of very few high schools throughout the state to earn a top score on a very challenging exam. This shows that not only are our students performing well, but we have some of the best educators teaching our students.”

AP exams are administered every year in Indiana high schools. These exams contain college-level questions to test students’ abilities to perform at the next level.
