STATEHOUSE (Aug. 15, 2025) – The Hagest Farm in Clark County, in operation since 1901, was recently recognized with a Hoosier Homestead Centennial Award, according to State Rep. Karen Engleman (R-Georgetown) and State Sen. Chris Garten (R-Charlestown).
"Farming is tough work, and keeping a family farm up and running for over 100 years is no small feat," Engleman said. "These persistent workers have tirelessly preserved Indiana's past and helped to advance our economic future."
The Hoosier Homestead Award Program honors farms that have been owned and operated by the same family for at least 100, 150 or 200 years with Centennial, Sesquicentennial, and Bicentennial awards.
"Agriculture is one of the most important industries in Indiana, and the Hagest Farm has been an excellent example of the Hoosier work ethic that brings in more than $35 billion in economic investment to the state each year," Garten said. "I am proud to represent the Hagest Farm, which has worked for many generations to maintain their family's legacy."
This farm family was among 95 awardees recently honored during a ceremony at the Indiana State Fair.
Since the program began in 1976, more than 6,000 Hoosier farms have been recognized for their economic and cultural impact. Ceremonies are held every spring and summer.
More information, including nomination forms for the March 2026 ceremony, is available at in.gov/isda. The deadline to apply is Nov. 1. Questions can be directed to HoosierHomestead@ISDA.IN.gov.
