Sullivan: Legislative Update

Dear Friend,

House Republicans are prioritizing a responsible, comprehensive and sustainable plan to address our state’s road and bridge funding needs. House Bill 1001 focuses on three principles: fiscal responsibility, data-driven metrics and sustainability. As a mother of three and a member of the Roads and Transportation Committee, I am committed to supporting a safe and efficient transportation system without creating long-term debt for our children and grandchildren.

I am also committed to supporting educators. I have met with parents and teachers in our district who have concerns with last year's ISTEP scores. This week, the Indiana House of Representatives voted 95-1 in favor of a proposal ensuring last year’s ISTEP scores do not unfairly penalize Hoosier teachers and schools, since the state transitioned to a new, more rigorous test. After passing out of the House of Representatives, House Bill 1003 now moves to the Senate for consideration.

Hoosier veterans and military members visited the Statehouse this week to be recognized for their bravery and commitment to our nation. In order to honor our Prisoners of War and service members who are missing in action, the POW-MIA Chair of Honor now sits at the Statehouse.

In the governor's State of the State address given this week, Indiana’s record-low unemployment rate, economic growth and investments in infrastructure were highlighted. Click here to read the 2016 State of the State address.
