A new law I championed immersing local kindergarteners in foreign languages is showing great success.
As seen on WRTV’s recent report, “Pilot program at Morgan County school immerses kindergartners in foreign languages,” students at Poston Road Elementary in Morgan County are excelling at learning dual languages.
This state-supported initiative, “Dual Language Immersion Pilot Program,” was initially implemented in five schools, including Poston Road Elementary.
As a co-sponsor of the bill that established this program, it’s exciting to see children exposed to multiple languages. Even though the program just started as school resumed in January, the kindergarteners in this program already know how to introduce themselves in Spanish. They also spend time learning math, science and social studies in a different language.
I applaud the Metropolitan School District of Martinsville for aggressively pursuing this pilot program. Programs like this are crucial because they help Hoosiers better succeed in today’s global society. As your representative, I will continue authoring and supporting policies that help our children prosper.
