STATEHOUSE — House Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis) has announced the interim study committee assignments for the Indiana House of Representatives. State Rep. Bill Friend (R-Macy) has been selected to serve on two study committees: the Interim Study Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources and the Interim Study Committee on Environmental Affairs.
“I am ready to work on important issues that are affecting our community and state,” said Rep. Friend. “As a member of the Agriculture and Rural Development Committee and Environmental Affairs Committee during session, I understand the need to study these topics and gain more insight on how to better write legislation in these areas.”
The Legislative Council meets after the legislative session has ended to discuss and assign topics for committees to study throughout the interim. Most interim committees will meet from July through October.
Interim study committees are a vital part of the legislative process. While representatives are not in session, they continue working throughout the year by studying various topics assigned to their committees. Similar to standing committees, interim study committees with specific focusses receive testimony from experts and members of the public.
“Interim study committees give legislators the opportunity to build on the progress made during the previous legislative session while laying the groundwork for next year,” said Speaker Bosma. “These committees are an integral part of the legislative process and allow us more time to properly vet the issues which matter most to Hoosiers.”
