Dear friend,
Today marks Indiana’s 199th birthday! In 1816, Indiana was the 19th state to join the union and we should be proud of our rich heritage.
Details will be released today about plans for Indiana’s bicentennial celebrations including an Olympic-style torch relay, which will visit all 92 counties and cover 2,300 miles.
Hoosiers will symbolically “pass the torch,” connecting past and current generations to future ones. If you would like to nominate someone to be a torchbearer, click here.
Bicentennial flags were raised at noon today in all towns, cities and counties. To learn more about the state’s plans to celebrate 200 years, visit www.indiana2016.org. Click here to wish Indiana a happy birthday.
Sincerely,
State Rep. Dick Hamm
Did you know? William Henry Harrison was the first governor of the Indiana Territory and then went on to become the ninth president of the United States.
