Education:
State Representative Wendy McNamara represents Indiana House District 76, which includes Posey and portions of Vanderburgh counties. She was born and raised in Indiana and received her undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of Indianapolis, teacher certification from Valparaiso University and Masters in Education and Educational Leadership from the University of Southern Indiana.
Rep. McNamara brings decades of experience, knowledge and leadership to the Indiana House of Representatives. Her entire educational career has been with the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation where she has served as a teacher, as the Supervisor of Social Studies and as the Assistant Principal at North High School. Additionally, she has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Southern Indiana and at the University of Evansville. She has been recognized with several prestigious awards throughout her educational career.
Currently, she serves as the Director of Early College High School. This is a position she has truly been innovative in by developing a model for high school students who simultaneously earn both a high school diploma and an associate’s degree or two years of college credit toward a Bachelor’s degree.
Throughout her tenure as a representative, Rep. McNamara has fought against human trafficking, supported and advocated for law enforcement, and led a four year effort to reform the juvenile justice system. She has received many awards and recognitions for her work in these areas.
She lives in Evansville with her dog Yuki.

Wendy McNamara (R-Evansville) and Tim O'Brien (R-Evansville) issued the following statements today in response to the State Budget Committee approving the release of $83 million in state funding for the University of Southern Indiana. The funds will be used to renovate the Wright Building, the oldest building on campus, and the 30-year-old Health Professions Building. The project includes the renovation of 188,000 square feet across two interconnected buildings. In addition to updating classroom spaces in the Wright Building, the project includes improvements to HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems, as well as communications technology and structural updates. The Health Professions Building project includes technology upgrades, expanded simulation space and the completion of third-floor renovations to expand classroom space, study areas and instructional labs. During the 2023 legislative session, local lawmakers voted in support of the funding as part of the state budget. The State Budget Committee formally approved releasing the funds on Friday, along with funding for several other projects across the state.

According to the National Network to End Domestic Violence, victims are killed or severely injured on a daily basis due to the combination of guns and domestic violence. An astounding number of women are killed by their abusers, and guns are the most commonly used weapon in domestic violence homicides. When abusers have access to firearms, victims’ lives are at risk. That’s why I am working on a new law that would require those placed under order of protections to surrender their firearms and ammunition within 48 hours.
