Kendell Culp of Rensselaer was elected in 2022 as a state representative for constituents of House District 16, which includes portions of Jasper, Pulaski, Starke and White counties. Since 2016, Culp has served as vice president of Indiana Farm Bureau.
Culp farms with his father, wife and son. They grow corn and soybeans, and raise beef cattle in addition to having an independent swine finishing operation.
Culp served as a Jasper County commissioner for 18 years, 16 years as president, and was a past president of the Indiana Association of County Commissioners. In addition, he served as a member of the Jasper County drainage board, Northwest Indiana Solid Waste District board, Jasper County Community Corrections Board and the Jasper County Economic Development Board. He also serves on the Jasper County 4-H Council.
Culp and his family attend Trinity United Methodist Church.

STATEHOUSE (Feb. 9, 2026) – The House passed State Rep. Kendell Culp's (R-Rensselaer) legislation to preserve prime farmland while encouraging local economic development.
With committees scheduled and session starting, I am gearing up for the 2026 legislative session at the Statehouse in Indianapolis. This year, our goal is to continue Indiana's strong economic momentum by ensuring reduced property taxes, prioritizing affordability and fostering growing communities. Focusing on the needs of House District 16, I will propose legislation ensuring a balance between protecting prime farmland while meeting economic development needs, drone privacy and food security.

Supporting Hoosier farmers and representing our rural communities are among my top priorities as your state representative. The General Assembly has taken efforts in recent years to protect our farmlands and bolster Hoosier agriculture. One of the ways we've done this is by establishing barriers against foreign adversaries owning our farmland.

Food security is national security. That's why I join many Hoosiers and Americans in raising concerns about foreign adversaries like China and Russia ramping up their efforts to buy farmland. Our federal government reports that foreign ownership of U.S. land is up by a staggering 40% since 2016 and we know some of those acres are in the Hoosier state. During the 2024 legislative session, I authored legislation, which was recently signed into law by the governor, to protect Indiana's farm ground and food supply for years to come.

Indiana has nearly 300 agritourism destinations from orchards and Christmas tree farms to wineries and breweries, and their popularity continues to grow. These operations are often family owned and operated, and help farmers diversify their income streams. During the 2024 legislative session, I authored legislation to help cut red tape for these families and Hoosiers who would like to start an agritourism business.
