He was honorably discharged in 2000 and transitioned to the Indiana Air National Guard, serving as an active guard reserve member for 11 more years. Serving the people of House District 57 has been one of the great honors of my life. From the day I was sworn in to the Indiana House of Representatives in 2022, representing portions of Hendricks, Johnson and Morgan counties, I have carried with me the values I learned growing up in Mooresville: hard work, service, and a deep commitment to family and community.
However, my service to this state didn’t begin in the Statehouse. For more than two decades, I proudly served as a Marine Corps aviator and later in the Indiana Air National Guard, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2013. Those years taught me discipline, leadership and the importance of serving something greater than myself. After retirement, I returned home to Mooresville to raise our children with my wife, Brooke, and to build a career as a small-business owner and commercial broker. I also had the privilege of serving as Indiana field representative for the National Rifle Association for six years, and as a member of the board, advocating for Second Amendment rights on behalf of Hoosiers.

I recently had the opportunity to join fellow lawmakers and other state officials for a discussion with Attorney General Todd Rokita, White House Border Czar Tom Homan and former Department of Homeland Security Acting Secretary Chad Wolf on illegal immigration and how Indiana can better work with the federal government to secure the border, stop illegal immigration and keep our communities safe. You may think that Indiana is not a border state, but every state is a border state.
As a Marine veteran and member of the House Veterans Affairs and Public Safety Committee, I know how important this issue is and see how it impacts our state and communities. According to the American First Policy Institute, illegal aliens cost Indiana $921 million in 2023, with each alien costing the state $4,451. From fentanyl and other drugs coming across the border and human trafficking by the cartels, to increased crime and exploiting cheap labor and our public-school systems, this issue takes its toll here at home, not just nationally.

June is PTSD Awareness Month, a time to recognize the toll post-traumatic stress can take on veterans, service members and their families. As a Marine veteran and member of the House Veterans Affairs and Public Safety Committee, I understand the deep and lasting impact military service can have, especially for those battling the invisible wounds of war. This month is also an opportunity to connect Hoosier veterans and their loved ones with resources that can help make a difference in their lives.
Indiana continues to improve and expand resources to assist service members and veterans with housing, legal aid and more through the help of several organizations. This session, I was proud to support legislation aimed at improving the lives of service members, veterans and their families. This includes efforts to boost benefits for members of the Indiana National Guard and strengthen support for military spouses and dependents (HEA 1111), modernize military recognition in our state and expand eligibility requirements and opportunities for those who have served (HEA 1637) and ensure Hoosier veterans have streamlined access to the assistance and support they deserve by improving county veterans service offices (SEA 433).

As a Marine veteran and member of the House Veterans Affairs and Public Safety Committee, I know firsthand the sacrifices our service members make. When they return home, they deserve more than just our gratitude. They deserve real support to help them transition back into civilian life. Unfortunately, too many Hoosier veterans face challenges that no one should have to endure, including homelessness.
I'm proud to support the Indiana House of Representatives' partnership with Helping Veterans and Families of Indiana (HVAF) during the 2025 legislative session. This year, we’re working together to collect essential food, clothing, hygiene items and monetary donations for HVAF at the Statehouse through March. HVAF has been on the front lines in the fight against veteran homelessness in Indiana, and it's important to support them following a devastating fire that displaced 48 veterans last fall at one of their facilities.
As Hoosiers, we take pride in the values of family, hard work and community. For many seniors, their home represents not only their biggest investment but also stability and a place of memories. As local property taxes rise, their ability to stay in that home becomes increasingly difficult.
That's why I authored House Bill 1075 this legislative session. My bill would bring much-needed property tax relief to Indiana's seniors, while also supporting all homeowners and providing additional assistance for disabled veterans.
