October is recognized as Cybersecurity Awareness Month and a reminder for all Hoosiers to take the necessary steps to protect their personal information online. From our phones and computers to the networks we use at work and home, every click matters. Indiana became the first state in the nation to build a strategic cybersecurity pathway for high school students, with the launch of the Indiana Cybersecurity Partnership in May.
This pathway connects students with two- and four-year institutions, the National Guard and employers to prepare them for high-demand careers in cybersecurity. Cyberattacks are increasingly common and they touch everything from hospitals and utilities to businesses and national security. Indiana has more than 20,000 open cybersecurity roles and filling them with Hoosier talent starts in high school. Learn more about the pathway here.
Additionally, the Indiana Cybersecurity Hub provides tips and resources for all Hoosiers to learn how to spot phishing emails, set strong passwords, enable safety features and secure their devices. The website offers help including:
• Assessing your cybersecurity risk
• Reporting a cybercrime
• Strategic plans and reports
• Training and events
The state also offers the Indiana Privacy Toolkit, which is a new, free-to-download resource that helps organizations gain a better understanding of privacy.
All Hoosiers should stay vigilant, engaged and educated on cybersecurity awareness. Take a moment to review these tips and share this pathway with students interested in cybersecurity careers.
