Twenty-five years ago today, our nation experienced one of the darkest days in American history. On September 11, 2001, nearly 3,000 Americans lost their lives in the terrorist attacks that forever changed our country. We remember the victims and their families, the first responders who ran toward danger and the countless Americans who answered the call to serve their fellow citizens in the days and years that followed.
A quarter century later, an entire generation has grown up without memories of that day. For those who were not yet born or were too young to remember, it is our responsibility to ensure they understand the tremendous loss our nation experienced, but also the courage, compassion, unity and service that emerged in its aftermath.
As we mark the 25th anniversary, take a moment to remember, reflect and learn. May we never forget the lives lost on 9/11, the heroes who sacrificed everything to help others and the spirit of unity, service and patriotism that brought Americans together.
