Lowering Costs for Hoosiers

Affordability remains a top issue for Hoosiers across the state, and House Republicans are committed to reducing costs for working families. From property taxes, healthcare, utilities and the other costs of everyday life, Indiana has been working to ease these pressures and lower costs for Hoosiers.

Indiana has cut taxes every year over the last decade, saving taxpayers nearly $27 billion. We cut Indiana's personal income tax from 3.15% in 2023 to 2.95% today, with another reduction to 2.9% coming in 2027, resulting in Indiana having one of the lowest income tax rates in the nation. Last year, we also advanced meaningful property tax relief and reform. Senate Enrolled Act 1, passed in 2025, is projected to save Hoosier homeowners $1.3 billion over three years. It includes a new 10% property tax credit on all homesteads and additional relief for seniors, veterans, farmers and small businesses.

We've also worked to lower healthcare, energy and housing costs. House Republicans passed House Enrolled Act 1004 last year, which targeted high prices at nonprofit hospitals and strengthened transparency to help reduce healthcare costs for Hoosiers, and House Enrolled Act 1002 this year, which holds utilities accountable for affordability, provides more predictable billing and strengthens protections for residential utility customers. Last session, one of our priorities was legislation to make home ownership more affordable by reducing unnecessary regulatory barriers that are driving up costs.

As the 2027 legislative session approaches, more work remains and House Republicans are committed to ensuring Indiana remains an affordable state to live, work and find opportunity. Learn more about our work last session here and to see other recent laws, visit iga.in.gov.
