In 2016, the Indiana General Assembly created the Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship to encourage talented students to pursue careers in teaching. Since then, the program has helped strengthen Indiana's educator pipeline by investing in future teachers who are committed to serving Hoosier students.
This year, more than 300 students earned the renewable scholarship, which provides up to $10,000 per year, or up to $40,000 total, in exchange for a commitment to teach in an eligible Indiana school for at least five years after graduation.
Interest in the program continues to grow. More than 1,000 students applied this year, representing over 300 high schools in 90 of Indiana's 92 counties. The strong response reflects a shared commitment among Hoosier students to serve their communities through education while helping address the state's future workforce needs.
Recipients must meet rigorous academic standards to qualify. Eligible students must graduate in the top 20% of their high school class, earn a top 20th percentile score on the SAT or ACT, or maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average. These requirements help ensure the scholarship supports students who have demonstrated academic achievement and a passion for teaching.
Indiana continues to prioritize policies that support education, invest in future educators and prepare students for success.
