Hunting and Trapping Season

Hunting and trapping seasons have begun and there are state resources available to help outdoorsmen prepare.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources regulations guide provides a summary of Indiana's rules and can be downloaded by clicking here.

 Important updates to note:

  • Deer hunting regulations have undergone several major changes for the 2025-2026 season; and
  • The inaugural bobcat trapping season will open in 40 counties this year.

Hunting season dates can be found here.

Hunters will need a valid license to hunt any wild animals on public or private land. The DNR recommends hunters give themselves plenty of time to access their new license system while planning a trip. For those who had friends and family linked to their account, watch this step-by-step instructional video on how to reestablish those links.

Hoosiers can also attend free in-person hunter education courses for those needing their certification or are interested in learning more about hunting in Indiana.

Further resources for hunters and trappers are available here, including information on where to hunt.

Have a safe and enjoyable hunting season.
