Highlighting New Laws in Effect July 1

From expanding property tax relief for disabled veterans to increasing childcare access and supporting local businesses, state lawmakers took action during the 2026 legislative session to address some of the most pressing needs facing Hoosiers.

Many new laws passed during this year's session take effect on July 1 and will impact communities across the state.

The General Assembly delivered meaningful tax relief for Hoosier veterans through House Enrolled Act 1210. This new law expands property tax relief for 100% service-connected disabled veterans by increasing the property tax deduction to 100% of the assessed value of their home. The legislation also eases property taxes for other veterans who served our country, reinforcing Indiana's commitment to supporting these Hoosiers and their families.

Lawmakers also advanced new opportunities for Indiana's small farms and home-based food producers through House Enrolled Act 1424. This law reduces regulatory barriers for qualifying homestead vendors and small farms, giving them greater flexibility to sell homemade and farm-produced food directly to consumers. It supports local agriculture, strengthens Indiana's food economy and creates new opportunities for small businesses and entrepreneurs.

To help working Hoosier families, lawmakers passed House Enrolled Act 1177 to improve childcare affordability and accessibility. Reliable childcare remains one of the biggest challenges facing parents across Indiana. This new law expands tools to improve access to childcare assistance and support childcare solutions that help more Hoosier families stay connected to the workforce.

Throughout the 2026 legislative session, lawmakers remained focused on supporting families, strengthening communities and expanding opportunity across Indiana.
