Indiana has a major milestone to celebrate. In 2025, nearly 92% of Hoosier high school seniors graduated, setting a new record for the state and surpassing last year’s record of 90.2%. This marks the third consecutive year of improvement, reflecting continued academic progress for Indiana students.
This historic achievement is a testament to our educators, families and hardworking students who have prioritized academic success. State lawmakers have also advanced legislation that focuses on outcomes and student engagement. Graduation rates increased across every major student group, including Black, Hispanic, English learner and special education students, highlighting successful efforts to help all students succeed. Additionally, Indiana’s non-waiver graduation rate also improved, surpassing 90%.
This increase in graduation rates follows several other academic milestones achieved by Hoosier students. Indiana ranks sixth in the country for both fourth and eighth grade reading, and recent third grade IREAD scores improved by nearly five percentage points – the largest single-year increase in over a decade. Indiana's chronic absenteeism rate also recently improved for the third year in a row following pandemic related declines.
Indiana’s graduation rate tracks the percentage of students who earn a high school diploma within four years of entering ninth grade. This data is then used by families, educators and policymakers to evaluate school performance, identify gaps in support and guide decisions on academic programs. Graduation rates are one of several key indicators used to measure the overall health and effectiveness of Indiana’s K-12 education system. As Indiana looks ahead, this strong performance serves as both a remarkable success and a benchmark as the state continues to strengthen academic pathways and expand opportunities for students.
Congratulations, Indiana Class of 2025!
