Empowering Hoosier Parents, Students

Indiana House Republicans have led the charge to help ensure every Hoosier student has access to a high-quality education, regardless of zip code, social status or economic background.

Indiana’s new budget increases K-12 funding by $640 million, which is a 5% increase and the highest funding level to date for Hoosier schools. Nearly half of the state budget supports K-12 education.

School choice continues to be a priority for House Republicans, and our new budget also empowers Hoosier families like never before. We believe families should have access to a range of education options based on their individual needs – whether it be public, non-public or homeschool – and that their tax dollars should follow the child. Beginning next year, Indiana will empower all Hoosier families to choose the education environment that’s best for them. Indiana ranks 3rd in the nation in the Center for Education Reform's Parent Power Index.

Indiana also continues to modernize Hoosiers' high school education to better reflect real-world needs by offering more opportunities for work-based learning and career experiences. House Republicans led efforts creating and expanding the Indiana Career Scholarship Account program, which provides $5,000 annually in career-based scholarship funding to high school students in grades 10-12. CSA funding can be used for work-based learning opportunities like apprenticeships, internships and more.

These investments and policies are leading to positive results for Hoosier students. According to the 2024 National Assessment of Educational Progress, the state recently jumped to sixth in the nation for fourth grade and eighth grade reading and made gains in fourth grade math. Recent 2025 ILEARN scores also show significant improvements in math since 2021 across all grade levels and all student populations.

According to a recent WalletHub study, Indiana ranks 8th nationally for our education environment.

House Republicans remain focused on providing education options for families and improving academic results for students. These efforts are aimed at ensuring Indiana's K-12 curriculum engages students in learning and prepares them for the modern workforce.
