Delivering Results for Hoosiers This Session

The 2026 session of the Indiana General Assembly has officially wrapped up, concluding months of work focused on affordability, efficiency and reducing regulatory burdens for Hoosiers. House Republicans advanced a series of initiatives aimed at lowering everyday costs, streamlining government operations and giving families and communities more room to thrive.

A major theme this year was cutting through red tape whether in housing, energy, government or education. Several priority bills cleared both chambers and have either been signed into law or are awaiting the governor’s signature.

One of the most significant measures, House Enrolled Act 1001, targets Indiana’s housing shortage by easing restrictive regulations that can slow or block new development. The goal is to increase the state’s housing supply and help bring down the cost of homeownership.

Energy affordability also took center stage. House Enrolled Act 1002 introduces performance‑based accountability for utilities, encouraging cost‑effective operations and more reliable service.

In an effort to modernize state government, House Enrolled Act 1003 consolidates or eliminates numerous outdated boards and commissions, reducing redundancy and improving efficiency.

Finally, House Enrolled Act 1004 cuts unnecessary regulations in K–12 education, giving schools more flexibility and allowing educators to focus more directly on student learning.

These efforts, along with new laws expanding child care access, providing tax relief for working Hoosiers and strengthening online protections for minors, mark a productive end to the 2026 session. Click here to learn more about these and other new laws passed in the 2026 session.
