The President approved Indiana’s request for a major disaster declaration following recent storms and flooding, unlocking federal aid to assist in Hoosier communities’ recovery efforts. Under the declaration, individual assistance is now available to impacted residents in several counties across the state, including Carroll, Dearborn, Decatur, Delaware, Fayette, Franklin, Hamilton, Hancock, Henry, Lake, LaPorte, Madison, Marion, Morgan, Porter, Pulaski, Randolph, Rush, Tipton, Union, and Wayne Counties. Additional federal aid is available to help communities with public assistance as they recover.

The FEMA disaster assistance is separate from the State Disaster Relief Fund, which is providing eligible individuals up to $5,000 in emergency disaster aid. Individuals who have already applied for the State Disaster Relief Fund must also submit a FEMA Individual Assistance application to be considered for federal support.

For state resources, residents can text IN211HELP to 898-211 at any time to select what assistance is needed based on their zip code. Below are available state resources:
State Disaster Relief Fund: The Indiana Department of Homeland Security is authorized to provide up to $5,000 in emergency aid grants for eligible residents impacted by the storms. Eligible items include certain home repairs, essential furnishings, essential appliances, essential tools, debris removal, medical devices, and essential transportation. Housing: The Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority is also providing temporary housing grants to help eligible displaced Hoosiers transition from emergency shelters into hotels, apartments and other temporary accommodations. Call 2-1-1 or text IN211HELP to 898‑211 to report storm damage and get connected to state resources, including temporary housing grants.
Food: Indiana has activated emergency SNAP benefit replacements for eligible SNAP recipients who lost food due to the storm or power outages. Affected Hoosiers can submit an affidavit for replacement benefits until Aug. 31 at fssabenefits.in.gov.
Report storm damage: Homeowners who suffered storm damage are encouraged to call 2-1-1 or visit the Indiana 211 website to report damages and get help with assessments.
Insurance: Hoosiers can contact the Indiana Department of Insurance Consumer Services whose team is available to talk to residents and provide guidance on insurance issues, navigating claims and next steps for uninsured losses. The Commissioner of Insurance issued a bulletin calling on insurance companies to protect Hoosiers from unforeseen drops in coverage.
