STATEHOUSE (March 9, 2016) – After serving House District 70 for six years, State Rep. Rhonda Rhoads (R-Corydon) is retiring from the Indiana General Assembly. Today, fellow House members honored Rhoads for her years of service and commitment to improving the lives of those members in Harrison, Floyd and Clark counties.
“This experience has been a true honor, which I have not taken lightly,” Rhoads said. “I am humbled by the opportunity to make a difference in not only my community, but the entire Hoosier state. I cannot thank the people of District 70 enough for the opportunity they have given me to be their voice in the General Assembly.”
During her time in the Indiana House of Representatives, Rhoads served as vice chair of the Education Committee since 2011, and was a member of the House Courts and Criminal Code Committee and the Committee on Family, Children and Human Affairs.
“Rhonda’s experience in the classroom and in local government has served as a tremendous asset to our caucus, and she will be greatly missed at the Statehouse,” House Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis) said. “I am thankful for her public service and friendship, and I wish her and her family the very best in the future.”
Prior to representing House District 70 in the Indiana House of Representatives, Rhoads was elected to the Harrison County Council in 2000 and served as vice chair from 2005 to 2006. She was an elementary school teacher at North Harrison Community School for 29 years, where she taught kindergarten and second grade and started the first competitive soccer team at North Harrison High School. Rhoads also coached with the Harrison County youth soccer program for 12 years.
Rhoads is active in the Harrison County Farm Bureau, Women of the Moose Corydon Chapter, and served as past treasurer of the Harrison County Republican Party. She is a devoted member of Old Capitol United Methodist Church in Corydon.
“I will truly miss the energy of the Statehouse and representing the good people of District 70,” Rhoads said. “While I will always cherish my time in the House of Representatives, I am eager to be home and devote more time to my family.”
