STATEHOUSE (Sept. 28, 2017) — State Rep. Denny Zent (R-Angola) recently received a public service award from the Coalition for Homelessness Intervention & Prevention for his efforts in sponsoring a new law helping the homeless in Indiana.

Under the new law, money collected by local governments from document copying fees will go toward creating development projects helping the homeless and providing transitional housing for Hoosiers in need, including those with substance abuse problems.

“This legislation utilizes the existing fee structure, allowing a portion of those fees to be invested in creating and preserving affordable housing,” Zent said. “We can help people who need it the most.”

The Coalition for Homelessness Intervention & Prevention mobilizes, advocates, and empowers community collaboration toward ending homelessness and fosters an effective system of homelessness prevention and intervention in the greater-Indianapolis area. Each year, the coalition recognizes citizens in the community with awards for their work in helping end homelessness in the state.  For more information, visit http://www.chipindy.org/who-we-are/.
