House Dems Stall Floor Debate
STATEHOUSE- State Rep. Jerry Torr (R-Carmel) anxiously awaited the return of the Democrats on the House floor today. In order for the House to resume session, approximately 67 of the House members must be present for a quorum call.
"Democrats have the right to make their point by not showing up to work, but by doing this they are not doing the job that they were elected to perform."
There are 23 committee reports that House Republicans are waiting to adopt. These committee reports need to be adopted before these bills can be heard by the full House.
"I am very disappointed with my Democratic colleagues who chose not to represent their constituents today," said Rep. Torr. "While it is not completely unexpected I still find it extremely disappointing that they didn't show up to work while being paid by taxpayers."
Rep. Torr serves District 39 which includes Carmel, Fishers, and Westfield. For the 2011 legislative session, Rep. Torr is the Assistant Majority Floor Leader and serves on the Labor and Employment Committee, Insurance Committee, and the Rules and Legislative Procedures Committee.
