House Speaker Brian Bosma (R-Indianapolis) issued the following statement in response to Gov. Mike Pence authorizing the $250 million repayment of our state’s federal unemployment loan before the Nov. 10 deadline:
"We are thankful for the governor's authorization to pay off Indiana's federal unemployment loan early eliminating a tax on hiring which will benefit all Hoosier workers and job creators," Bosma said. "This action is a testament to Indiana's fiscal strength and strong commitment to creating a pro-growth business environment that spurs job creation and boosts our economy. In 2011, House Republicans set out to put our state's unemployment insurance fund on a path to solvency and today's announcement is welcome news for Indiana's workers and employers. Hoosiers should also be proud as our state just ranked eighth on the annual Forbes list for best states for business and our unemployment rate dropped again - hitting its lowest point in eight years."
