STATEHOUSE (Jan. 8, 2018) — House Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis) will host the Indiana House Republican’s annual “Tweet Seats” during Gov. Eric Holcomb’s State of the State address on Tuesday.

Since 2013, Bosma has invited prominent community members and organization leaders to the Statehouse to provide live commentary via Twitter during the governor’s annual address. Bosma said his goal is to engage the public in conversations about what is going on in their state government and the work that is being done on their behalf.

“Transparency in government continues to be a top priority and the Tweet Seats Series provides us with a great opportunity to better connect with constituents on the important issues we face as a state,” Bosma said. “Our Tweet Seat participants have unique and diverse backgrounds, which we hope will engage larger audiences and provide different perspectives. We encourage the public to follow the conversation on Twitter and weigh in with their thoughts and opinions.”

The State of the State address is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the House Chamber on Tuesday, Jan. 9. This year’s Tweet Seat participants include:

  • Cathy Graham, executive director of the Indiana Association of Resources and Child Advocacy Institute for Excellence (@IARCA_IN);
  • Chelsea Schneider, AIM municipal innovations specialist (@AimChelsea);
  • Dr. Byron Ernest, member of the State Board of Education and director of educator development and partnerships for Noble Education Initiative, Inc. (@ByronErnest); and
  • Kevin Brinegar, Indiana Chamber president and CEO (@IndianaChamber).

House Republicans and Tweet Seat participants will be using #INlegis and #INSOTS during the event. The House Republicans use their Twitter account to provide legislative updates to their followers, including vote summaries, legislative updates and public events.
