INDIANAPOLIS (Jan. 12, 2016) - House Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis) will host his annual “Tweet Seats” during Gov. Mike Pence’s State of the State address today.
Since 2013, Bosma has invited members of the media, educators and nonprofits to the Statehouse to tweet live updates on the governor’s speech.
“Through hosting Tweet Seats, my hope is that we can digitally engage more Hoosiers in our conversation and encourage them to share their voice on issues that matter to them,” Bosma said. “Social media provides us with a unique, innovative tool to communicate with constituents while increasing transparency and accountability.”
This year’s Tweet Seat participants include:
Gerry Dick, Inside Indiana Business (@GerryDick)
Dr. Byron Ernest, Head of Schools at Hoosier Academies and member of the Indiana State Board of Education (@ByronErnest)
Lana Taylor, Boys and Girls Club of Indiana (@IN_Alliance_BGC)
House Republicans and Tweet Seats participants will be using #INlegis, #INSOTS and #Indiana among others during the event, which begins at 7 p.m. in the House Chamber. The State of the State address will be available live on the Internet by visiting www.in.gov/gov. Bosma said House Republicans use their Twitter account to provide updates on vote summaries, legislation and public meetings. To follow the Indiana House Republicans on Twitter, search @INHouseGOP.
The Tweet Seat series is an extension of Bosma’s previous transparency initiatives. In 2005, Bosma began live streaming House floor proceedings. In 2011, he made every House committee meeting available via the Internet.
