STATEHOUSE – State Rep. Matt Ubelhor (R-Bloomfield) announces that the 2013 House Republican Internship Program is now accepting applications. The program is open to college students and graduates and is recommended to those who would like to gain professional experience as well as learn more about the legislative process.

“I strongly encourage any interested college and college graduate to apply for this incredible opportunity,” said Rep. Ubelhor. “There is no better program in the state for those interested in state government and the legislative process.”

Applicants from all academic majors are accepted. Interns will be compensated with a $700 bi-weekly stipend and are eligible to apply for a competitive $3,000 Verizon scholarship. The scholarship can be applied toward educational expenses for the student’s current or future undergraduate or graduate studies.

The internship will be for the entire 2013 legislative session, which begins in January and ends in April. It is a full-time internship at the Statehouse, located in Indianapolis.

Individuals interested in the internship program may consider four different concentrations when applying: member services, media, computer/technology and policy/fiscal. For a detailed description of each concentration and additional information concerning the internship program, please visit www.in.gov/legislative/house_republicans, select the ‘Student Opportunities’ tab at the top of the page, then select ‘Internships’.

The Indiana House Republicans will accept applications for the internship program until Oct. 31. Applications are currently being accepted at the website listed above.

Interviews will be conducted as applications are received. Applicants are encouraged to work with their school in order to obtain academic credit for the internship – most colleges and universities in Indiana offer class credit.

“This program really provides interns with hands-on, real-life learning experiences and is a great way to get behind the scenes of the legislative process,” said Rep. Ubelhor. “This program provides work experience and networking opportunities better than any other in the state.”
