STATEHOUSE – State Representative Jerry Torr (R-Carmel) received the 2012 Legislator of the Year Award presented on Wednesday from the Indiana Hotel and Lodging Association (IHLA). Rep. Torr received the award specifically for his work during the 2012 legislative session on HEA 1001, Employee’s Right to Work (RTW).
Rep. Torr authored HEA 1001 which gives Hoosier workers the freedom to decide whether or not to join or financially support a union. Right to Work received over 35 hours of committee testimony, debate and discussion over the past year. IHLA chose to highlight HEA 1001, as it was this year’s most prominent pro-economic growth legislation and has already begun to bring more jobs to Indiana.
“I am humbled to receive this award,” said Rep. Torr. “Many members of the House passionately supported this legislation, and we can already see how it is paying off for Hoosiers. This legislation is translating jobs for unemployed Hoosiers.”
The IHLA serves and represents the hotel and lodging industry in the state of Indiana by providing governmental affairs services and information to IHLA members.
The Indiana Hotel and Lodging Association serves and represents the hotel and lodging industry in the state of Indiana by providing governmental affairs services and information to IHLA members. The industry represents over 800 properties and accounts for more than 275,000 Hoosier jobs.
“Each legislative session we work hard to improve the economic business climate of our state,” said Rep. Torr, “and I believe we made a huge step in the right direction this year with the passage of Right to Work.”
