Rep. Torr Named Chairman of Rules Committee
STATEHOUSE-Speaker Brian Bosma (R-Indianapolis) appointed Rep. Jerry Torr (R - Carmel) as Chairman of the Rules and Legislative Procedures Committee for the 117th Indiana General Assembly. Rep. Torr has previously served as a member of the House Rules and Legislative Procedures Committee.
"I am honored that the Speaker has entrusted me with this important responsibility. Under the prior Speaker, we had not always followed our own rules and procedures in the manner that I believe the public would expect. I second Speaker Bosma's efforts to restore civility and order to the legislative process," said Rep. Torr.
"When legislators are making laws that will shape Indiana's future, and we have legislators that don't follow rules, it can make the process very complex. So it's an honor to be named Chairman of the House Rules Committee not only to get things back and running how they should, but also to follow protocol to make the law-making process what it should be."
In addition to his appointment as Chairman of the Rules and Legislative Procedures Committee, Rep. Torr also serves as Vice Chairman of the Joint Rules Committee. Also, Rep. Torr will serve on the Commerce Committee, Employment Committee, Labor & Pensions Committee, Insurance Committee and the Judiciary Committee.
Rep. Torr has also been appointed to a leadership position by Speaker Bosma, and will serve as Assistant Floor Leader.
