STATEHOUSE— Rep. Mike Speedy (R-Indianapolis) earned the 2011 Legislator of the Year Award presented to him by the Indiana Hotel and Lodging Association (IHLA). Rep. Speedy is the first freshman legislator awarded this honor according to IHLA.

Rep. Speedy was awarded for his work in authoring several pieces of legislation that promote economic growth and spur Indiana business. Among many pro-economic growth pieces of legislation supported by Rep. Speedy, House Bill 1538 was highlighted by the IHLA, a bill that protects small business as well as the hotel industry from arbitrary wage mandates from local governments.
“I was happy to champion HB 1538 and provide legislation supporting industries and businesses who continuously bring employment opportunities to Hoosiers.  I will continue efforts to make Indiana an environment that promotes employment and protects upward mobility for employees and businesses,” said Rep. Speedy.

The Indiana Hotel and Lodging Association serves and represents the hotel and lodging industry in the state of Indiana by providing governmental affairs services and information to IHLA members.

“It is an honor and a privilege to be receiving such an award. Indiana has been a leader in economic development and this legislative session, we were able to continue to pass legislation that further develops Indiana’s fast growing economy,” said Rep. Speedy.
