STATEHOUSE – House Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis) announced standing committee assignments today for the 119th General Assembly. Standing committee assignments are made biennially after each election.

State Representative Alan Morrison (R-Terre Haute) was appointed to serve as the Vice Chairman of the Agriculture and Rural Development Committee. He was also chosen to serve on Natural Resources and Utilities and Energy committees.

“West central Indiana is mostly comprised of rural communities, and since my first year serving in the Legislature, I have worked hard to support and advance rural parts of the state and remain committed to that goal,” said Rep. Morrison. “I am especially eager to address and review legislation assigned to the Agriculture and Rural Development Committee, and as Vice Chair, I will work with my colleagues, famers and Hoosiers alike to strengthen Indiana agriculture.”

Standing committees are considered the workhorse of the institution, as they are vital to the success of the legislative process. Committees receive public testimony and work out the details of proposed legislation before it is heard the House floor.

“I am confident in the abilities of each of these leaders, and I know they are all eager to begin their work,” said Speaker Bosma.

The 2015 legislative session begins on Tuesday, Jan. 6, at 1:30pm.
