STATEHOUSE (Dec. 16, 2016) — State Rep. Kevin Mahan (R-Hartford City) was recently reappointed to serve as chair of the House Committee on Government and Regulatory Reform.
He was also named to the House Committee on Courts and Criminal Code, the House Committee on Family, Children and Human Affairs and the House Committee on Insurance.
“Committees are an integral part of the legislative process, as they allow policymakers to fully vet proposals for new laws while hearing from the public and industry leaders through testimonies,” Mahan said. “It’s important that we continue to find ways to make government more efficient and transparent for taxpayers, and my experience serving in local and state government gives me a unique perspective when considering bills that come through the Government and Regulatory Reform Committee.”
Standing committee assignments are made biennially after each election. On Jan. 4, House lawmakers will convene at 1:30 p.m. in the House Chamber for the first day of the 2017 legislative session.
Standing committee hearings, which typically occur at the Statehouse in Indianapolis, can be viewed live online at iga.in.gov. This site also provides committee calendars and meeting agendas.
