STATEHOUSE (April 3, 2019) – A Beech Grove High School graduate is gaining experience as an intern with State Rep. Cindy Kirchhofer (R-Beech Grove) and her fellow members of the House of Representatives during the 2019 legislative session.
Evan Smiley, a resident of Beech Grove, is the son of Phil and Christa Smiley. He attends the University of Indianapolis where he is majoring in political science.
As a legislative intern, Smiley corresponds with constituents through phone calls, letters and emails while also staffing committee hearings and floor proceedings.
“Whether he is working on the House floor or talking with constituents who reach out with questions or input on legislation, Evan is serving Indiana in many ways,” Kirchhofer said. “This unique internship provides several ways to grow professionally and network with state leaders on a daily basis, and local college students and recent graduates should take advantage of this opportunity in the future.”
Each year, the House of Representatives offers paid internship opportunities to college students, law-school students, graduate students and recent college graduates for the duration of each legislative session.
“It has been a wonderful experience interning with the House of Representatives,” Smiley said. “I have been able to hone skills that I developed during my time at the University of Indianapolis, while also getting a bird’s eye view of the legislative process.”
