STATEHOUSE — House Republican Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis) announced committee members for the Indiana House Republican caucus, and State Rep. Doug Gutwein (R-Francesville) has been selected to serve as the Chairman of Labor, Employment and Pensions Committee.

Committee chairmen and caucus leaders are selected biennially by the majority party after each election year.

“It is a privilege to Chair the Labor, Employment and Pensions Committee for another term,” said Rep. Gutwein. “A lot of progress has been made to shore up our state’s pension funds and provide more freedoms for Hoosier workers. As a committee, there’s more work to do as we will continue to look at ways to strengthen Indiana’s workforce.”

In addition to his leadership role, Rep. Gutwein will also serve on the Veterans Affairs and Public Safety and Agriculture and Rural Development committees.

Standing committees are an integral part of the legislative process. Committees with specific expertise receive public testimony and work out the details of proposed legislation before it is heard on the House floor.

“I am confident in the abilities of each of these leaders, and I know that they are each eager to begin their committee work and their leadership roles,” said Speaker Bosma. “We are preparing a new generation of legislative leadership in Indiana, armed to deal with today’s critical problems. Our constituents expect us to work together, and I assure Hoosiers that we will.”
