STATEHOUSE- House Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis) announced standing committee assignments today for the 119th General Assembly. Standing committee assignments are made biennially after each election.
State Rep. Doug Gutwein (R-Francesville) has been appointed Chairman of the Employment, Labor and Pensions Committee. He has also been selected to serve as a member of the Agriculture and Rural Development Committee and the Veterans and Public Safety Committee.
“I am honored to have been appointed to serve on these committees, especially as Chairman of Employment, Labor and Pensions,” said Rep. Gutwein. “Growing the economy and lowering the unemployment rate continue to be my top priorities, but I also look forward to strengthening Indiana in other areas to support veterans, students, teachers and Hoosiers alike.”
Standing committees are an integral part of the legislative process. Committees with specific expertise receive public testimony and work out the details of proposed legislation before it is heard on the House floor.
“I am confident in the abilities of each of these leaders, and I know they are all eager to begin their work,” said Speaker Bosma.
The 2015 legislative session begins on Tuesday, Jan. 6, at 1:30pm.
