Rep Gutwein's Statement on the Passing of House Bill 1001

(STATEHOUSE) Feb. 20, 2009 - Rep. Doug Gutwein (R-Francesville) offered the following statement about House Bill 1001, the budget bill:"It would have been nice to have been able to have an input on how this budget was crafted.

I feel it is critical that we do not spend any of the reserve funds. Unfortunately the bill spends a large amount of our surplus, and we may have not seen the worst of this recession.

The bill the majority pushed through is, frankly, risky for Hoosier taxpayers.  It isn't balanced, spends from our reserves and puts the property tax caps in jeopardy. In no way is this budget in the best interests of Hoosiers."
