(STATEHOUSE) Jan. 30, 2008 - A bill, co-authored by Rep. Bob Behning (R-Indianapolis), that will improve education passed out of the House of Representatives today. House Bill 1246 (HB 1246), which creates an interim study committee on K-12 virtual learning, passed 81-11.

"This provides a chance for smaller schools to be able to offer online advanced placement courses and other high level classes that may not necessarily have enough enrollment," stated Rep. Behning. "Ultimately, this will be a significant benefit to students across Indiana, who will have the opportunity to be even more challenged with their high school curriculum."

In addition to creating an interim study committee, HB 1246 also creates the concurrent enrollment partnership to coordinate dual credit programs among Indiana high schools and state educational institutions.

The bill now advance to the Senate for further consideration.
