"'Don't mess this up.'  That was the governor's primary message to legislators in his State of the State address.  Well, we messed up despite his warning, and we'll be back for a special session.

"We passed an unemployment trust fund bill that places the entire burden on Indiana businesses and doesn't even begin to pay back the nearly $750 million we've borrowed from the federal government.  The bill overtaxes businesses to the tune of $400 million at a time when we need to create a better tax climate to encourage business growth and put more people to work.

"However, there is hope for real conservatism.

"We voted to kill a last-minute, irresponsible budget - absolutely the worst I've seen in my legislative tenure.  I'm proud of Republicans who voted against the tax hikes and the over-the-top-spending budget."
