STATEHOUSE— House Speaker Brian C. Bosma (R-Indianapolis) announced standing committee assignments for the 119th General Assembly.  Standing committee assignments are made biennially after each election.

State Representative Mike Speedy (R-Indianapolis) was re-appointed as Vice Chair of the Roads and Transportation Committee. He will also serve as a member of the Employment, Labor and Pensions Committee and was newly appointed to the Utilities, Energy and Telecommunications Committee.

“I appreciate the confidence the Speaker has entrusted in me, and I am eager to continue my work as Vice Chairman of Roads and Transportation to improve Indiana’s roads, highways and bridges,” said Rep. Speedy. “Having good, drivable roads is integral to our everyday lives, so I look forward to hearing from constituents and experts in order to strengthen Indiana’s transportation system this session.”

Standing committees are an integral part of the legislative process.  Committees with specific expertise receive public testimony and work out the details of proposed legislation before it is heard on the House floor.

“I am honored to have been appointed to the Utilities, Energy and Telecommunications Committee, as it deals with crucial issues that keep Indiana running efficiently,” said Rep. Speedy.

The 2015 legislative session begins on Tuesday, Jan. 6, at 1:30pm.
